Yesterday we had the pleasure of leading the Newton Carnival Parade from Blackwell to Newton, a long march, especially considering the heat ☀️ (but glad it wasn’t as bad as earlier in the week 🫠). The band did really well and were happy with the performance we managed 😊 Plus, as always, enjoyed a pint or three from the Wunder Bar 😜 Thank you once again Newton Carnival Team!
Today we had the opportunity to once again be a part of Worksop’s Armed Forces Day celebrations at the Worksop Rugby Club. This is a great day for us and we always get to meet some amazing people who love the music, both for us and other great entertainers. This video is an entrance to our second performance on the day. This Saturday, we once again had the privilege of being able to play in Parwich for the Oddfellows’ Wake, which is part of their celebrations for St Patrick’s Day. It’s a wonderful event for us with such a great community, and we’re glad to be a part of this! I’ve got some videos as well but have to upload separately. Severn and Trent Oddfellows
An exemplary performance yesterday by the band for our 58th Annual Dinner. Some well deserved recognition for the band as a whole, with awards handed to members for their efforts the past year, and well deserved promotion for our now Drum Corporal McCann. We as a band also took the opportunity to thank the Pipe Major and his wife Jane, for their extraordinary efforts for decades of service and background work to the band. Here’s to the start of an amazing year for us all!

Today the band was out for the last performance of the year, helping to bring a little cheer to the visitors of Clumber Park. We played for a few hours in various areas at the park’s visitor facilities, and managed to sneak in a couple Christmas carols on the pipes 🎶 Thank you once again to Piper Steve Purchase for organising this event, and thank you to Clumber Park staff for allowing us to play.
Today, we helped start the launch of Guiltbrook’s Poppy Appeal with the Royal British Legion – Eastwood & District Branch. A cold day out and certainly turned some heads at the retail park but got their attention! You’ll notice a few members not in full uniform, these are Piper Lai and Drummer Nowakowska out for their first time! Very well done 👏 Some more photos are likely to follow.
Friday 21st November, we’ll be making an appearance at Pleasley Miners Welfare to spice up bingo night. If you’re in the area, feel free to come down! The miners welfare have been good to us over the years, providing a great meeting place near our practice building and most importantly keeping the pint glasses filled 😋 Time for us to give something back! 🎶

We’ve got 3 events coming up in the next few weeks to assist 3 different Royal British Legion branches. Today we had the absolute privilege to be invited to lead the procession for Lincoln Steampunk Festival It was such a blast to take part in such an event, let alone lead it. Everyone was so happy, kind and welcoming, which the band were so thankful for 🫶 It was a really good day out and the Pipe Major even had the opportunity to play the lament on the Castle battlements (last photo) 🎶
Today, the band have been awarded yet another…well award 😅 This one is the bronze level award for Employer Recognition Scheme as part of the Armed Forces Covenant. We’re so happy and proud to receive such recognition and this will only stur our drive for greater deeds 🎉 Thank you to all of the band and everyone that supports us to help us achieve these heights 😊
A great day out in Heanor again today, with a fantastic turnout for the band. The largest amount of pipers we’ve been able to muster for a long time, if not the most. Unfortunately most of our drum section were unavailable, otherwise we’d have conquered the streets with our numbers! It’s great to be back supporting some local businesses such as (but certainly not limited to): Infinite Wellbeing and The Angry Bee Micro Pub as part of Heanor’s Beer and Music festival. Thank you for having us, and we’ll be back soon I’m sure 🫶
A great day out parading for the Parwich branch of the Oddfellows. Severn and Trent Oddfellows A lovely community over there and a great performance for the band. Piper Rich Lavis was parading for the first time out with the band today as well and did brilliantly, so much so we forgot to actually take a photo for the occasion, but there will be photos of the event itself where he will be visible 😋 (EDIT: added a photo now) Additionally, as part of the Oddfellows celebration/wake, they have postbox toppers hand made by the community which look great. However, this year we had a special feature of Quartermaster Sergeant Pipman being replicated in miniature form as part of the postbox topper. ‘Pip’ had given some of the residents small lessons on the bagpipes on our previous visits and this was a show of their appreciation 🥳

We’ve been nominated as a finalist for the Boots and Beret Awards 2025 🎉 This is following on from our previous achievement with the Armed Forces Covenant. We are very happy to have ourselves put forward and nominated for our contributions to the Armed Forces community, and obviously we will continue to keep up our efforts as you no doubt expect 😁

First post of 2025, and it’s not a small one. Last year we went through review and application for the Armed Forces Covenant, which has been successfully processed and official. You will start seeing this showing up on our website and other forms of media. We are very happy to show off our support and very much appreciate this award and creditation.
This weekend we had the honour to once again lead the Mansfield Rememberance Parade for the Royal British Legion Mansfield Branch. A true pleasure for us as it’s been a duty held by the band for around 50 years. Not our best performance but we gave it what we could. I also want to give a shout out to Mr Walesby, our latest drummer to join the ranks on his first performance out with the band, very well done and here’s to many more.

Last week, we had the honour of once again helping to kick start the Poppy Appeal at Worksop North Notts Area for Royal British Legion – Worksop Branch. A great performance by the band and another great opportunity to perform with Lily Taylor-Ward. It’s truely a wonderful experience to be able to continuously support a great cause.
Next Saturday, we have the wonderful privilege of playing at Worksop’s North Notts Arena, to welcome in this years Poppy Appeal Launch at the Festival of Rememberance. This week, we had the wonderful opportunity to attend a gathering for the Lord Lieutenancy of Nottinghamshire. It was such an honour to be invited to this and to be able to perform for such a crowd. We had an amazing evening and it was great to hear the other musicians as well: Nottingham Military Wives Choir and Inspire Jazz Band, who were amazing in their own right 🎶
