What a fine body of men and a lovely picture of our drummers. Yes I would like to announce that we now have a drum corps. I would like to give a special mention to Aaron who made his first appearance out with the Band today (He is the good looking one on the left)
To day we lead the parade for the C of E primary school at lowdham. The children dressed up as "children from all over the world". It was fantastic to see so many involved, It looked like the whole village was there.
Thank you people of Lowdham for the appreciation and hospitality you showed to us.
Welcome to Mark who has now come out with us on a warm summer's day. There have been comments as to why there are never any pictures of drummers on our website, so I have taken this opportunity to do just that. The real reason is that they are always at the back and I resist any further comments on this matter. Ian, the lesser in stature gentleman on the right, has been in the band for a number of years and has been heard to say that he was as tall as Mark when he started.
Probably the hottest day in the world...ever, especially when you are doing a 25 minute march. It doesn't sound very much, but it does lose you about three stone in sweat. Yet again another good turnout by the band; we can boast 11 pipers and three drummers and I haven't counted Sam twice who played the base drum on the march and the pipes in the field display. Thank you to you all for giving up your Saturday.
Nicely organised event, the parade setting off at 11.30am reaching the field just short of 12pm. The weather being so good and so hot, the crowd at the event was probably the largest I have ever seen, and I hope that everyone made as much money as did the ice-cream seller. It was great to see the memorial fly-past again; one of the event organisers must be very well connected...
I was really pleased to see Geoff back on the base drum after quite a long absence - we missed you mate, welcome home (you may get the job again permanently).
A special mention goes to Colin, who has only been with us for a short time. Colin, you made us all smile when you performed an almost perfect pirouette forming the circle. For your first live performance with the band, you mastered the art of marching and playing at the same time, so I would like to say exceptionally well done!
Pipe Sergeant Gullen is 60 years young officially, now he has had his party at the Debdale Lane Social Club Saturday 22nd May 2010. It was a great party - why - Fantastic food, great venue, good company and terrific music. Thank you Stu and "Happy Birthday"
The Dinner was well attended with 101 guests. The band was 20 members strong with 14 of those being pipers probably the biggest band we have turned out. the playing was fantastic although I am a little biased. Awards were as usual presented and this year best dressed went to Drum Major Hallam, Best attendance went to Piper Lord Henry Stuart McDonald (again) and the most improved went to Piper Lee Coupe.
Special Thanks to Piper Ian Pitman who has worked tirelessly over the last few weeks got get most of the members correctly kitted out.
Also a special mention and congratulations to Drummer Mark Lloyd and Piper Lee Coupe on there first performance, well done guys.
The Seaforth Highlanders (Notts branch) are looking for drummers. It doesn't matter if you've never played before or if you're totally proficient, we'd love to talk to you.
In particular we are looking for a regular bass drummer, to play our brand new shiney red bass drum. and we are also looking for HTS side drummers.
On Sunday 5th December 2009 we lead a large parade at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. The purpose of this parade was to help the people of Mansfield raise money for a permanent monument in the town to honour the service personel who have lost their lives in the recent conflicts. We were humbled by the turn out of those marching and those watching. It was a very emotional day but a great atmosphere of unity and common purpose. I wish to compliment the band on there playing again, they made me proud. My thanks to Pipe Major Steve Bozon and the members of the Leicester branch Seaforths who joined us. With special thanks to Fraser Ross who travelled up from London to play the base drum.
27 wreaths laid this year at the Cenotaph at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
A great turn out by all units creating a long parade through the center of Mansfield. There was a good turn out from the band on this cold and damp day of remembrance. The team played well and made me proud to be the Pipe Major of such a great band. Congratulations too Martin on his first appearance. Special thank you to Alex for carrying the standard, Sam for playing the Bass drum and Ian for being the side drummer.
